Brownback Is Running For President

Sam Brownback of Kansas yesterday officially declared that he would be seeking the Republican nomination for President.

The announcement by Brownback was overshadowed in the media by the announcement by Hillary Clinton. But Brownback's pitch was to a different audience.

As a social conservative Brownback has no equal in the Republican Party. He is pledging to restore Families and culture. His statement is unequivocal on what he stands for.

"We need to revitalize marriage, support the formation of families, and encourage a culture of commitment. We need a culture that encourages what is right and discourages what is wrong—and has the wisdom to understand the difference."

Brownback is Catholic, and while that might not be the most attractive option for many of the social conservative base of the GOP, it is miles ahead of Mitt Romney. Romney is Mormon, and his positions on abortion and gay rights have previously been extremely liberal. Only in recent times has he changed his views.

And given that the leading candidates thus far in McCain and Giuliani are moderate, Brownback may well be the candidate of choice among many in the party. So while he doesn't rate in the polls thus far, expect his figures to shoot up in the near future.
